I would like to take this opportunity to reflect upon the importance of using the Backwards Design approach to plan units. I would like to share this youtube clip I have found, which explains the benefits of using the Backwards Design approach.
It highlights the importance of firstly developing desired outcomes and planning the experiences needed to achieve these outcomes. The clip emphasises that educators must begin planning with the end in mind. They must consider the outcomes of a unit of work before mapping out the how each individual student will achieve these outcomes. By using the Backward Design approach, the learning and teaching in the classroom gives every student the opportunity of reaching intended learning outcomes.
I believe the Backwards Design approach allows educators to plan units, which contain explicit links between the learning experiences provided and the learning objectives that must be achieved by the end of the unit.
