During week three we were asked to select and share a resource from Scootle, in relation to our upcoming professional experience context. My chosen context is Foundation Year Mathematics, as this will be the context of my upcoming professional experience.
When looking through the many Scootle resources I decided to focus upon the ‘Shape Up’ activity. This activity would enhance Foundation Year students’ understandings of the concept of shape. Students would be provided with opportunities to “Sort, describe and name familiar two-dimensional shapes in the environment”. This resource is engaging and interactive as students are able to use colours to identify the various shapes and also students are provided with animations of their paintings once they have identified the correct shapes. I believe this resource would be beneficial when teaching Foundation Year students the concept of shape and I would definitely utilise this resource within my classroom.
